GB-St. Louis’ Diabetes Fundraiser a Success

Gallagher Bassett prides itself on a unique and close-knit culture, and there’s no better example of that than the work GB’s St. Louis branch has done in the fight against diabetes.

Assistant Branch Manager Beverly Reed has worked with client YRC, a shipping/freight company, for several years. When she found out that one of its employees had a daughter with diabetes, she wanted to help them raise money for diabetes research. Since 2006, the branch has worked together to raise money with the help of the affected family. Each year, employees put together a week of fundraising culminating in a BBQ for the whole branch.

This year’s BBQ took place on June 14 and featured an appearance by the St. Louis Cardinals’ mascot, Fred Bird. Fred participated in a game of bags with employees, who also enjoyed games of washers and bingo along with a bake sale, silent auction, and 50/50 drawing. The branch raised approximately $1,000 from its fundraising efforts.

One of the ways the branch raised money was by having employees donate money to vote for their favorite employee. The employee with the most votes was surprised later in the week with a friendly pie in the face.

Assistant Vice President Troy Smith loves how the event brings the branch together, including its approximately 50 teleworkers.

“Many people are involved and most of the branch employees participate,” says Troy. “We have many teleworkers and most come into the branch for fellowship and fun. This is my favorite part, and really captures the essence of GB and what makes us different.”
